He still ranks as Duke's all-time leader in receptions (189), receiving yards (3,318) and touchdown catches (38), and he's the only player in ACC history to record three 1,000-yard receiving campaigns. Hines' best year was his senior campaign of 1989, when he caught 61 passes for 1,149 yards and 17 scores.

Whatever the old Duke humor magazine was when I was there was way ahead of its time. One of the funniest things they ever did was a full page 'ad' that had 'Clarkston Hines for Duncan Hines', with the pitch that he always made the reception because 'every time I see a ball coming my way, I imagine it is a delicious bundt cake'.

Would've killed it had NIL been in place.
