Food and Alcohol

Probably the thing I'm most bummed about is Nice Price on Broad being replaced by fucking Papa John's.

I guess Tijuana Flats closed? Damn, that was brief. There's Panera, Subway, and Jimmy John's (though that's been on 9th for a long time). In general, even the more "local" things on that side of the street have more of a Southpoint corporate vibe than longterm establishments like Banh's, Blue Corn, Francesca's, etc.

By the way, is the Waffle House 24 hours? It had just opened last time I was there and I didn't get a chance to go.

Tijuana Flats was replaced by Alpaca. The Waffle House is 24 hours. It only took up half the space of Charlie's. I wonder what they are going to put in the other half. I loved the salsa bar at Chubby's, I'll be sad if it's gone for good.

I guess there are still other Chubby's around, but they are not as convenient.

Chubby's was definitely a big improvement on Cosmic Cantina. Alpaca looks interesting. Any good?

I've heard really good things. Mami Nora's the the main Durham location. Not sure why the name is different here.

Anyway, not much can beat a 3 am burrito at Cosmic.

Anyone ever been to Johnson's Family BBQ about 15 minutes east of Durham on 98? That place is freaking amazing. Easily the best brisket I've ever had. Also, they have a signed picture of Thad Lewis on the wall that where he wrote "best BBQ in Durham," which is ultimate cred.

What style of brisket was it? I've been looking for something like that because I thought the brisket at the Original Q Shack was pretty average and the one at Backyard BBQ was served in this gravy which was alright but not what I was looking for.

Good ole eastern NC style. Not saucey, just super juicy and smokey and amazing.

Apparently they only have it Wednesdays, though, for whatever reason.
