Virginia Tech has been playing football since 1892. I can remember as a kid going to Virginia Tech vs. Duke games at Wallace Wade Stadium. Other than the UNC games it was usually the biggest crowds. And on key plays everyone would shake their keys for "key plays". Things have changed today.

The VT home losing streak is dead. Fuck yeah. Elko is the real deal, but man, aside from Kansas unexpectedly becoming good, our schedule shaped up about as well as possible this year. The Coastal is truly awful and we got the weakest Atlantic team in BC. Perfect for a first year HC to notch some wins. This is our first .500 or better season in conference play since 2015!

The job Elko has done cannot be stated enough. He should be ACC coach of the year. We know they will probably give it to Mac Brown. Bowling at Duke in your first season is awesome! Virginia State Champions bitches! Hahaha, love it!

We should be 9-1 against a have a chance against a shit (relatively) Clemson team in the ACC champ game, but we Duked the Fuck Up 2 games this year.

Is there any way to tie Elko down? I wouldn't be surprised if he gets poached next year.

lifestyle of the duke football coach has to be among the chillest of any power 5 job + every head coach is making generational wealth nowadays.

keeping him happy with the assistants he wants has to be priority #1.

Pay the man and his staff and continue to fund facility upgrades. Cutcliffe and the PTB both got lazy and rested on their laurels with assistants/salaries/facilities after 2015 and it contributed to the collapse.

I did hear from a pretty good source that Elko apparently loves it at Duke (as an Ivy League grad and former Wake assistant, he is a perfect fit for this job) and thinks he can compete for an ACC title here. The expanded 12 team playoff coming down the road may help too. We’ll see what happens when a big time SEC program gives him a call, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he is in Durham for a while.

I was at a birthday party for a buddy of mine last weekend and one of the ladies there is the wife of one of the position coaches. Had a long talk with her about Duke, Durham, and the football program. She had a lot of interesting things to say, but the main takeaway I had was similar to DFL - that being that her husband LOVES Duke and Elko. She said that Duke is unlike anywhere they’ve been. Had some Elko stories, including a hilarious one about Elko’s eating tendencies.
