One of my cats had a super swollen bottom lip. We took her to the vet and it turned out she had a tumor. She had it removed and appears to be fine. I had a way more emotional reaction to this than to anything that has happened to human friends or family members. I'm not sure what is wrong with me.

I got a new kitten but she's hiding right now. Trying to remember how long my last kittens did this.

Congrats. I am a cat person. I have one right now. His brother was my best friend and passed away April 5th, 2017.

Here they are in 2004 after I got them. One on the left is still living, and he's basically a puppy. Follows me everywhere, snuggles, etc.

My last two cats were that way but I had to leave them with my ex. I am hoping this one is the same. She came right up to me in the shelter and batted at my fingers. But now that I've got her home she's sandwiched behind the couch and hasn't moved in hours.

She probably just needs a playmate or two. Go back and get more.

They only allow you to do adopt one a month, unfortunately. Also I just spend $120 I couldn't really afford on adoption fees, a litter box, bowls, food, and litter.

Too bad you're not in NC now. All the shelters are over flowing with animals, particularly kittens, so most of them are waiving adoption fees just to make room. The animals are all neutered and vaccinated, too, making them a few hundred dollars cheaper than the free ones on Craigslist.

I probably should have gone with a year-old or older. The adoption fee was only $20. But I really wanted a kitten, and in particular this one.

I guess this experiment might be failure. If she's still not eating or drinking or using the litterbox tomorrow, I'm going to have to take her back. If I don't take her back tomorrow, it would be really hard to do it the rest of the week due to work. And I don't want her to die.

People say this is normal, but I don't see how you can sit here and be so cavalier about it. I mean, it's a two-pound animal that needs to eat.

Yeah, there's no point in either of you going through that.

yeah, that makes sense. I did that with my cat when I got her earlier this year. Then when you let her out, she’ll have a safe room to run back to.

Glad to hear the single room thing worked!

The only cat my wife and I have had together died this summer of kidney disease at 15, and we're getting ready to think about adopting again (looking for a bonded pair), and it's really useful to remember tips for the first days.

It's always fun for me when Rome liveblogs his first time doing something, whether it's reading Harry Potter or kidnapping a woman from a bar and keeping her in his basement.

I shut her in one room with all her stuff and she finally ate and used the litterbox. I think I'll keep her in there for a while until I see that she's reliably doing both.

The last two I had weren't like this at all. They adjusted to their new home almost immediately and were sitting on my lap within a few days.
