Player Wendell Carter Jr.

These are his numbers through the Southern game:

120 ORtg
great given his usage

24% Usage
appropriate; maybe should be a bit lower to run the offense more through Allen and Duval

15% OReb
excellent; only Giles, Jefferson, Marshall Plumlee, Miles Plumlee and Zoubek have finished seasons with a higher rate at Duke since 2002; Shelden Williams and Boozer were slightly worse in their final seasons

21% DReb
excellent; only Giles, Jefferson, Parker, Mason Plumlee, Miles Plumlee, Zoubek and Shelden Williams have finished seasons with a higher rate at Duke since 2002; it took Williams until his junior season to achieve a higher rate

14% Assist
great for his position; 3rd best in the rotation behind Duval and DeLaurier; would’ve been 2nd behind Allen last season; better than most starting guards at Duke since 2002

20% Turnover
only glaring weakness, but not abnormally bad for a big who likes to pass; Okafor and Tatum were at 18%, Mason Plumlee was about as bad or worse throughout his career, and Zoubek was worse as a senior

13% Block
historic; if sustained, would be the best rate at Duke since 2002; Shelden Williams came closest at 11% as a sophomore

66% FTRate
excellent; comfortably highest in the normal rotation this season

67% FT (14-21)
acceptable for a big; 4th best on roster behind Allen, Trent (small sample 3-4) and O’Connell (small sample 5-6)

57% 2pt (16-28)
great; Shelden Williams made 58% as a senior, Mason Plumlee made 60% as a senior, Okafor made 66%, Jefferson made 61% as a senior; may be unfair comparisons since Carter is a PF in the offense rather than a C

50% 3pt (2-4)
too small a sample size to care about, but meaningless at worst and encouraging at best

With the most obvious caveat that Duke’s strength of schedule through four games is much easier than the normal strength of schedule for a full Duke season, it appears that Carter as a freshman could be similar to a senior Shelden Williams on the boards and defensively (NDPOY) while having offensive numbers along the lines of a senior Mason Plumlee (1st Team ACC and 2nd Team All America).

Right around the second media timeout, K took his whiteboard out and wrote "SELFISH" in big underlined letters before tearing into the team. I'm not sure if it was directed to anyone in particular or whether it was at everyone with the way he referenced more turnovers than assists after the game.

Nice. Frankie Vision has been bringing the heat this year. I like the "full coverage" videos too.

I thought this thread was going to be all Rome, but it seems like we're all going to be jerking off right here for the rest of the season. If this were an actual message board, someone would have to periodically clean the semen off of this particular set of pages.

Really does have a chance to be the best freshman big we've had when you account for both sides of the ball.

Has had a couple games now with exceptional second halves after a lousy first.

He seems slow at times to adjust to different opponents, but he's awfully good once the other team is worn down from dealing with Bagley.
