I've made my peace with DT's and Duke.

It won't be easy, but Duke will always have to scrap for guys like Wray and Reyner who can be converted over and amass a DT frame.

Is it too much to ask for a John Drew level DT every year or three?

The safety spot would appear to be pretty appealing in the Duke system, especially with 2 spots opening up.

Johnell Barnes looks like he's going to be a stud for us. Not sure if he projects as a WR or CB, but he's grown an inch or so this year and is still growing (6'0, dad is 6'6), he's really young (turned 17 in August), and he's a great athlete with incredible hands. I kind of hope he grows another couple inches so he plays WR, because he kind of reminds me of CV.

Catch at 0:33 is insane:

^He had a game on ESPN2 tonight, looked pretty good. Pretty fast, really physical runner, good arm. Made some nice throws, and maybe just as importantly, ran the spread option very well.

There are reports of another commit, Bryon Fields. He is a 3-sport, smart, fast defensive back from Charlotte Providence Day, which is a good academic school. He has a 4.1 and won academic awards:
http://www.providenceday.org/RelId/7792 ... cipant.htm

Good track times: 100 Meter Dash 11.14 , 200 Meter Dash 22.73 , 400 Meter Dash 49.43
http://nc.milesplit.com/athletes/2504961-bryon-fields

Had some offers in basketball with 13 points, four assists per game last year.

According to the other site, he did very well at the Rivals/VTO combine in Charlotte and named one of top 8 corners from 9 different VTO camps. Very glowing reviews of him on the other site, which probably led to the 3 star rating there.

He performed well at Duke's camp but was caught in numbers crunch. Losing Tim Burton may have opened up a spot for a guy who may fit the Duke student profile a little better?

I posted this on TDD just because I get sick of others always denigrating any commit based on lack of information.

Considering how quickly we're losing guys to injury and dismissal, any DBs we can get are going to be helpful. However, this kid seems to be a great fit and I like his speed. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean he's super fast in pads.

Yeah, while I think he is a good athlete, smart kid, and will succeed at Duke, he doesn't have lots of other major offers from BCS teams. Lots of offers from FCS (and some from FBS schools): Air Force, Appalachian, Army, Furman, Ga St, Navy, Richmond, Wofford. And if you read the rivals VTO articles, he had the "Best Feet" at the Charlotte combine with 150 or more prospects, and fairly impressive to be ranked in the top 8 defensive backs out of 9 major VTO combine/camps.

All I care about is if he'll turn to find the ball in the air

Nice. Seems like a lot of our good players have come from NC private schools recently - Cockrell, Braxton, Kelby/Kyler Brown, Deaver, Foxx, Sink, Campbell, Burton all in the last 3 years or so. Probably a good pool for us to draw from, as the NCSIAA isn't exactly a football hotbed and most guys will qualify.

What ever happened to Aramide Olaniyan, the 4-star OLB/DE who committed to Duke and then reneged and went to UCLA? I see he had 2 tackles last season, but he apparently has zero stats for this season, his RS SO season.

I think they will count on Boehme as a backup and Connette package player, and go for a bigger fish in 2014. 18 QBs in 2014 are interested in Duke. Each guy under Cutcliffe should get 2 years to start until Cutcliffe lands a program changer, like an Elite 11 guy, who starts as a freshman.

Here are the best possibilities for a 2014 QB, if I'm reading Rivals right:

Will Grier
Davidson, NC
Notable Offers: Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Wake Forest

Kyle Allen
Scottsdale, AZ (same as Renfree)
Notable Offers: Duke, Oklahoma State, UCLA, North Carolina, Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State

Nicodem Pierre
Miami, FL
Notable Offers: Duke, Kansas State, Louisville, South Florida
