Currently reading a new bio on Joseph Kennedy

After SoS I'm taking a break from the GoT series and finally reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay then Rainbow's End. Then probs the next two GoT books.

Rainbow's End is a fairly recent Vernor Vinge book that is set in San Diego in the year 2025. I'm a sucker for hard sci-fi with futuristic technologies, it gives me good ideas for work.

Actually, one of the most awing passages I've ever read was in IJ, the part where he describes the evolution of internet and video chat, even though it was probably penned in the early-mid '90s: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bru ... sts/110471

Did you ever finish IJ?

That to me is the most awing book, period. Some people find it self-indulgent. I just enjoy reading genius at work on the page. Plus, it's a lot more readable than other postmodern writers. Try reading Gravity's Rainbow, for example.

I didn't finish it unfortunately, but plan to start over later this year. I had mixed feelings depending on the passage, but the payoffs are enormous. Also, aside from being informative the footnotes/endnotes were occasionally funny as hell.

If you can get about halfway through, the plot really starts to kick in too. I honestly ended up every bit as gripped by the "What happens next" factor (yes, another factor) as I have in many more plot-driven novels.

And yeah, it's one of the funniest novels I've read. "The first President to use 'boss' as an adjective." "The first President to swing his microphone by the cord during an inauguration speech." Giant feral infants. Year of the Depends Adult Undergarment. Organization of North American Nations (with the Bald Eagle wearing a smobrero and holding a maple leaf in its claws). That whole filmography for James Incandenza. "Annular Amplified Light: Some Reflections." "Fun With Teeth." "Blood Sister: One Tough Nun."

Read Ringworld by Larry Niven if you haven't already.

I am beginning A Storm of Swords. Who's with me?

You caught up with me. Just bought it yesterday.

On page 320 now after putting in significant time today and yesterday. Really good so far.

I have a couple of complaints, though.

I don't see how much longer they can drag on Arya escaping and getting captured, escaping and getting captured by someone else. She's still probably my favorite character, though.

Sansa went back to being dumb again already? It's like she learned nothing. She trusts the Tyrells after having one nice dinner with them.

Damn it, this book is long.

Storm of Swords is probably the best of the 5. Jaime's chapters are probably the best. He is by far my favorite character in the series.

Just a warning, Feast and Dance slow down drastically, so do not get your hopes up. I will say though, getting through the first 3/4 of Feast is brutal but the last 1/4 is great. So just force your way through that part.

im going to try not to spoil anything but a little heads up on Arya and Sansa:

Arya's story takes a completely different turn at the end of Swords and beginning of Feast. Sansa's story line is very interesting, but she still sucks.

Those were the least spoiler-ish spoilers I've ever read.

I'm loving it so far and can easily see how it's the best one. On page 400-something now.

Sansa's story immediately got more interesting when she married Tyrion.

Bran's story gets interesting as well

dont know how far you are, but i hate how Martin develops this great story for him and then he just disappears off the face of the earth.
