College Basketball Recruiting

I have no idea where to put this, but does anyone know how close Duke was landing to Chris Weber?

I've read different things about this.

Seemed to be an ideal candidate for Duke (apparently a solid HS student) and his multiple skills as a big would have fit nicely. I think he did visit campus.

However, Duke had a pretty loaded starting lineup and Parks in waiting. There was much hype about Parks at the time, so (at the time) so Duke may have been satisfied throwing their eggs in the Parks basket. The local hero factor and the other stellar recruits considering UM probably made it a easy decision for CW to stay home.

In short - I don't think it was all that close.

Pretty sure he went to Michigan because they offered him $ and Duke did not.

This is correct. He was likely headed to Duke and some Michigan boosters dropped a major bag.

Damn, could have legit three-peated. And hell maybe they go all the way in 1994 too and Grant becomes the most decorated college player ever. Would settle for winning in '93 and leaving UNC light one.

I have no problem with this. Have to do what you can when your benefactor has to temporarily stop dropping bags.

Hopefully this will push the NCAA to allow players to receive payments from sponsors. He could have gotten much more than 30K from some booster from Syracuse to play in college.

I think this makes sense for kids who aren't going to be heavily highlighted to the point where they can gain exposure/build a brand but also have the skills to compete at the G League now.

This poor kid is getting destroyed by Syracuse "fans" on Twitter.

We are such a disgusting society.

I hope he becomes an NBA All-Star.

Looks like this will be our roster next season, assuming all the recruits head to the G-League, as does Bolden:

C - Vrankovic
PF - DeLaurier
SF - White
SG - O'Connell
PG - Goldwire

Bench: Robinson, several 3-star recruits, Buckmire.

Might be good enough to beat Pitt and split with Wake.

There's nothing to worry about if the G-league is still only paying <50K for these kids to take the bus to get to games played in half empty high school gyms in the likes Skokie Illinois, Cedar Rapids Iowa, or anywhere in Michigan
