Meanwhile, the Gators will hope new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper can work some of the magic during his final game at Duke. The Blue Devils gained 661 yards during a 52-48 loss to Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M Tuesday night during the Chick-Fil-A Bowl.
Cook, who announced his decision earlier in the day, watched the game. He said there is no way to know whether Roper can do the same things with the Gators, who finished last in the SEC in yards and points in 2013.
“People were telling me to watch the Duke game, but I feel like you can’t really look at the Duke game because they ain’t the same type of players,” Cook said. “People told me to watch the Duke game, I watched the Duke game. Coach Roper is a great coach, but I don’t think Florida has the athletes like Duke got.
Think about all the suckers who parlayed UCF, Oklahoma and Duke to win straight up, which would've been something like 5,000-1. Duke cost those bettors $25,000 on their $5 bets.
Bowl games are such a different monster. often times the more motivated team, not the better team is the one that wins. With the induction of the BCS National Championship, the allure of bowl games for the upper echelon of college football has really fell off.
In the past, if you were in a bowl game, there was potential (keyword being potential) of still being awarded the National Championship. Now, there is only one game (which is the way it should be). De'Anthony Thomas said what everyone thinks at the top tier programs. They don't want to play for pride, they want to play for championships.
Could watch Clemson vs Ohio State in a more meaningful and important bowl game. Instead, I'm watching Mizzou vs Oklahoma State because of Gus Johnson. Don't even care, if Gus is on the air, I'm there.
BTW, Mizzou's uniforms look like they took a giant piss on their jerseys, they look awful.
