Depth/pt v defensive prowess and offensive prowess
With the talk about Duke’s tight rotation and its effect on our play, I thought it would be useful to look at the rotation of the nation’s elite defenses and offenses. Below is the breakdown of 30+, 20+ and 10+mpg players for each of the top 10 teams per Kenpom.
It looks like an elite defense pretty much means you have to use a big rotation with only 1 top defense having more than 2 guys playing 30+ minutes and only 3 playing fewer than 9 guys 10+mpg. Elite Offenses come in a variety of rotation sizes including 4 teams that play 1 or 0 guys 30+ mpg and 4 teams that, like Duke, play 4 guys 30+ mpg.

…also, someone better at math than me could probably do a %pt played by the starters v the bench to eliminate the arbitrariness of my 30/20/10 cut offs and to avoid mirage depth from injuries as I am sure that Duke is not the only team which appears to be using a bigger rotation by my measure than they actually are.
Finally, can someone tell me how to post a chart so my columns line up?
