Lance Armstrong - Professional Doper?

He had to be pretty sophisticated with it to avoid detection all those years. No telling what those teams were up to, but little would surprise me.
 
Without the fame and money he received from winning all those titles, he never would've been able to impact cancer research the way he has. The massive cheating was totally justifiable in this case. His cycling legacy is destroyed but no one with cancer cares about that. He'll primarily be remembered as a guy who took full measures for the greater good, and secondarily as one cheater in a sport full of cheaters. He's also known to be a dick to everyone in his personal life, and basking in all the greatness was repulsive in restrospect, but it all helped the cause.
 
I don't doubt for a second that Lance was cheating. What amazes me is that all of his teammates got busted and he didn't. He wasn't just a great cyclist, he was the greatest cheater of all time.
 
The problem is that the entire sport is plagued by doping. People are always going to dope in it and be ahead of the curve. I hope UCI opts not to strip Lance - they investigated Lance so many damn times without success, fuck doing whatever USADA tells them.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Jens Voigt was the only non-doper in some of those races.

He cheated. So what? Like you said, everyone does it. Problem is, after being called on it, he lied and lied and lied about it.
 
After watching 9.79 on 30 for 30, I pretty much assume that everyone is doping, and has doped, and that those that deny it are simply lying.
 
I used to love Lance, and I still like him, but it's clear to me that he's just been lying to the public all this time. And that, to me, is inexcusable. If he was doping all along, and just had admitted to it, I would be much more willing to ignore it and focus on the cancer awareness/research he's been able to provide. But after all these denials and lying, it's really hard to support organizations he supports because I just can't understand if he's just doing it for his own personal gain. His whole marketing ploy was that he was an American sports icon that kids could look up to for overcoming the biggest obstacles life could throw at him, but it's very clear he was cheating all along, and I don't think he should be someone people look up to because he cheated his way to the top.
 
The guy came back from metastatic cancer to win a crushing, rigorous bike race 7 times. A race that everyone else cheated in, too. He's helped raise millions of dollars for cancer. All he had to do was admit it and everyone would forget. Livestrong is on solid enough footing that it should be OK, though,
 
Yes, I agree. All he had to do was come out and say he doped. Nobody would blame him. He had cancer for Christ's sake! But by constantly denying it and lying, he's made things worse.
 
Serious question. Did he deny it, or did he just stand by his negative test results? Most dopers just say they have passed all of their drug tests, I seem to remember LA taking this approach, so I assumed he was guilty.

When Marion Jones was being investigated, she said the same thing. I have passed all of my tests, implying she was clean while not actually denying she was doping.
 
He did both

Armstrong, who has never failed a doping test, denied the charges. "I have never doped, and, unlike many of my accusers, I have competed as an endurance athlete for 25 years with no spike in performance, passed more than 500 drug tests and never failed one," he said in a statement.
