NBA

A whole team of anti-dawgs. They’re going to throw a potential turning point in NBA history for a kid Gobert is going to regret having in a few short weeks. Might be the dumbest thing he has ever done.

Another Duke star’s career prematurely ruined.

I imagine they'll give him a massive but short contract. 1 year/38 or 2/70 or something. The chode of contracts. There's really no harm in them doing this given their payroll. Going more than two years would be insane.

You could make very good objective arguments to the contrary, but after seeing this, IMO this is the worst #1 pick of all time.

USA needs to completely redo the team around Curry/LeBron/Durant/Tatum, partly due to all the injuries, but also to avoid wasting a spot on Haliburton. They certainly can’t take him over Brunson if he’s never going to find his game/health this playoffs. They should take Celtics, Wolves and Knicks role players for 5 of the spots.

Yes - he'll get a short term big $ offer from Orlando.

Won't F up their long term plans with that deal.

That camera man is this generation's Orville Nix, but with so much more at stake.

Has there ever been anything like what we've seen from the Wolves? I mean, this team lost in the 1st round last year. And during the regular season, they were very good but not great. They had some indicators (bad offense) that they were really going to struggle in the playoffs. Now they get to the 2nd round, and it looks like they're going to sweep the 2nd best team in the field.

This isn't like the 2015 Warriors. That team won 67 games. They had the #2 offense and the #1 defense. They didn't suddenly turn into a juggernaut in the playoffs.

Also, their defense is inexplicable to me. They have some great defenders, but this isn't a no-weak-link scenario like Boston. I mean, Gobert didn't even play last night and somehow they STILL hold the Nuggets to 80.

I don't know what's more insane to me. KAT holding up at the 4 defensively beside Gobert or Minnesota dominating defensively without Gobert.

Feels like this defense is all chemistry and coaching.

Yeah, seems like they must have some absolute wizard on their staff. Even someone like NAW - did even have a rep as a particularly good defender back on the Pelicans? I didn't notice if so, yet now he's apparently good enough on that end to be considered a specialist?

Kind of similar with KAT and Naz Reid being fierce defenders in their roles, and so on. Lots of guys who I would not have necessarily expected to be plus or even average defenders in a random timeline seem to be performing at their peak percentile on that end.

As far as I can tell, all that matters anymore is having a dominant guard and a bunch of tall guys. Boston has the tall guys if Porzingis returns.

Yep. And arms. Just like 75 feet of arm length.
True, but we've seen plenty of long-armed players who should be good defenders not be.

Defensive length on the wings does seem to be having more impact than ever before. The team I really can't explain being good defensively this year is the Pelicans. How was a team starting Jonas, CJ, and Zion good on defense? It felt like the collective length of Herb Jones, Trey Murphy, Dyson Daniels, Naji Marshall, and Brandon Ingram really made penetration difficult and helped them challenge 3pt shooters as well. There was some 3pt shooting luck, but this is the 2nd year running they've had roughly the same defensive results.

Boston and OKC are two other teams who seem to be defending with length. Obviously all the teams I've mentioned benefit from rim protection except for NO.

Gotta say the spectacle of Tatum the role-player standing in the background while Derrick White gets conference and finals MVP kind of takes most of the meaning out of the whole Boston victory scenario
