Soccer

Looks more and more like it'll be Belgium in the 2nd round for us.

They have a tremendously talented squad, but this little number right here could be a significant factor in the World Cup knockout stage: 0 minutes total experience on that squad in major tournament knockout stages. Yeah, many on their roster were on their 2008 Olympic team that won the bronze medal, but that's an age-level tournament anyway. The US, on the other hand, is pretty loaded with players who have experience from the World Cup and I'll even count the Confederations Cup and Gold Cup. Belgium also haven't looked entirely like a team to this point.

Colombia is going to rip Brazil apart in the quarters if they can keep it up.

Agree. Colombia has been far more impressive than Brazil.

The side of the bracket with Colombia, Brazil and Germany is clearly the better side. Best teams on the other side are Netherlands and I guess Argentina.

I think we'll see a great semi between Germany and either Brazil or Colombia.

I actually said to a friend this morning that if I were to pick a potential winner based on form so far, I would lean pretty heavily towards picking Colombia. Would love to see a Colombia/Netherlands final, with the US finishing in 3rd after two upset wins over Argentina and then beating Germany in a rematch.

It seems the Dutch tournament choke might be a bit ahead of schedule this summer.

I cannot in good conscience root for Mexico, BUT a win for them really opens up the US half of the draw.

Poor Jorge Ramos on ESPN is disconsolate. Everything went against Mexico, Robben's a cheat, the ref blew it, etc. etc.

A year from now, we could have three years to develop this lineup

Altidore (Sunderland), Agudelo (Stoke/Free Agent)
Bedoya (Nantes), Zelalem (Arsenal), Bradley (Toronto FC), Nagbe (Sounders)
Timmy Chandler (FC Nurnberg), Brooks (Hertha Berlin), Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim)
Brad Guzan (Aston Villa)

Next up:

Forwards: Joe Gyau (Just joined Borrusia Dortmund), Johannson (AZ Alkmaar), Josh Gatt (Molde FK), Terrence Boyd (SK Rapid Wien)
Attacking MF: Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg)
Winger: Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Brek Shea (Stoke)
RB: Deandre Yedlin (Sounders)
GK: Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire); Bill Hamid (DC Utd)

Belgium's captain defending Messi and some Russian:

I feel like this could be slightly misleading. Wasn't it yesterday or the day before that a similar announcement was issued only to turn out that he just jogged for a few minutes and went back inside.

Think I'm more interested in injury news from the Belgian camp than I am from the US camp, for a change.

You think Shawn Parker could opt for the USMNT?
