I signed up for Walmart+ two years ago on a Black Friday deal because I thought, hell yeah, I'll give you $59 to not set foot in Walmart for a year. I have to say it's the best delivery service subscription I've used, and I've used most of them.

I got it again this year on Black Friday and I'm shocked they're still doing this. Right now, Tiffany is on the way to my house with a single $2.97 bag of potting soil. There is no minimum order and not even an option to tip the delivery people. I'm going to pay $2.97, plus tax, a Walmart employee is going to process and pull the order, then an independent delivery contractor is going to pick up that $3 bad of dirt and drive across town to leave it at my front door.
This is such a weird business model that must be losing a fortune if there are many people like me who will place an order for one tube of toothpaste or multiple orders of single bags of cheap dirt.
That's intriguing. Can you use it for groceries too?

Yeah, I don't know if the options are universal but my options are: Pick Up (lol, fuck off), Delivery, Ship

Pick up is obvious, they get the order ready, you go pick it up

Delivery is how you order groceries, but they'll bring other items, too. There IS a tip option for delivery. You schedule deliveries same as Instacart.

Ship is what I'm using. If it says "Arrives today", the process is the same as Delivery, but there is no tip option and somebody just leaves it at your door at no particular time. If it says 2 or more days, it's shipping on FedEx, probably.

And just to update my potting soil delivery story that you were probably all on pins and needles waiting for - They already delivered the stuff they said was arriving tomorrow. I got a message a little after 4 saying my other items were on the way, I looked at the tracking map and they were bringing it from a Walmart in the neighboring county, 45 minutes away.
So I'm good on bags of dirt now, until at least next weekend.

I've never once thought about this but somehow it's so awesome to me:

If I thought about it at all, I assumed it was just pre-recorded music and there was someone pressing play on the appropriate snippet at the appropriate time. Never would have thought someone was playing it live.

Link to it in case one of you wants to buy it. @aiw ? It would fit the theme of your office.

Reminds me of this gem I saw in the wild a couple days back:

Completely different, but this one I saved from a while ago was also funny to me. Like, how is this worth anyone's time?

For reference, you can buy a 12-pack of these exact picks online for $5.15 after tax and shipping. That's $0.43 each. You're not even saving money by buying these if you lived next door to this person.

And obviously it's equally stupid for the seller. I'm not sure I'd even want to answer the door and have an interaction with a stranger for $1.

I only do that in the bus station washroom

"Is this still available?" is the marketplace version of a work chat or text that just says "hey", which I would ignore.

"If this is still available, then I'd like to know if there were a convenient time to check it out, or would you consider $XYZ..." is so much better.

I feel like the biggest dummy in the world trying to navigate my 'end of car lease' buyout. I need an 'explain it like I'm 5' type of checklist or flow chart. Nothing gets me more frazzled than the DMV or car buying.

Just like with the eclipse, people on social media are posting obviously fake "photos" of the Northern Lights as if they're real.

I swear, everything is so heavily edited and processed that people have lost their ability to tell what's real. I equate the fake eclipse/Northern Lights photos to people posting a video of a band performing "live" that's obviously a studio recording. Have we heard so much over-processed music that we've forgotten what live music actually sounds like? Even the greatest musicians in the world don't sound studio-perfect when performing live. And there's no sense of the room acoustics in those fake "live" recordings.

The northern lights + instagram filters + someone teaching Bethany how to use the Brilliance slider
