College Basketball Recruiting

Daniels thinks Green is UK bound.

We better get Duval.

Ridiculous that we probably could have had him but chose not to. Multiyear guy, too, though UK may accelerate that.

Good job, staff. Passed up a likely four-year guy, who is arguably a better version of Quinn Cook and is teammates with the next dominant defensive center.

And in exchange we'll either end up with no one or a OAD who can't shoot.

Meh, whatever. Had Duke signed him he would have immediately blown his acl or sprained his ankle and would have ended up our next 5 star cheerleader.

Really hope we can pull off Duval. If so then Im cool with missing out on Green. Never seemed like the staff was ever really sold on Green.

No, he's not OAD, so he'd be brought back as soon as possible.

Good point. At this point I guess we will be lucky if we are stuck with Coleman. I base this off the assumption that we aren't signing Duval.

Given Duke's current standing in the recruiting world, I think the handling of 2017 PGs has to be one of the biggest gaffs in modern recruiting history. Duval would obviously ease a lot of the pain, but it hurts to lose guys like Trae Young and Green, both of whom would be good to very good multi-year options. This gaff is magnified when you consider the following class is considered to be much weaker, at which point you're hoping a freshman Darius Garland or Tre Jones can be as effective as a sophomore Young or Green in 2018/19; or 1) you hope you land Matt Coleman as insurance and 2) it turns out that Matt Coleman is a non-shithead by year two.

K'a new recruiting strategy is genius. Come be a NAD. If you aren't a NAD then GTFO

Is Zion Williamson a no-way-in-hell-he-goes-to-Duke prospect? I'd trade Jeter and a future top 25 recruit for him right now

I recall hearing that we were in good shape with him. But we were in great shape with Bamba at one point in time too.

Can we at least transplant some of his testosterone to Jeter? He's got plenty and Chase could really use some.

I kind of doubt we'd land him, but that would be huge. We desperately need a guard in this class, maybe even two.

Granted, Duval can't shoot, which could be a problem if Jackson leaves. Depending on what position Knox plays (assuming we land him), shooting could be a problem. I'd personally want to go with something like Duval/Kennard/Trent/Knox/Carter. That at least puts Knox at the 4, where I think he'll be better, and where it's more acceptable to shoot 32% from three. The main issue at that point is an utter lack of guard depth. The front court would be okay, with Jeter, DeLaurier, and Vrank coming off the bench.

If Jackson stays and we land Duval, everything's fine. But I suspect they may be mutually exclusive.

Duval and Frank are not mutually exclusive, IMO. A guy like Duval isn't going to be scared by competition, and Frank is not a natural point, anyway.

I don't like Knox at the 4. I think he's a 3 all the way. Pair Bamba with Carter down low and we're cooking.

2017 recruiting class:

Duval
Trent Jr.
Knox
Carter
Bamba
O'Connell

and a 2018 big reclassifies.

Maybe add one other guy.

The offense will run through Duval, Kennard, Frank, and Carter. Trent and Knox will get theirs. Bamba will clean up on the glass, defensively, and on slams/alleys/put backs.

Should be really fun. Right up there with this year (once we get healthy)

It's not a question of whether Frank and Duval can play together. It's a question of whether Duval wants to. He may not be "scared," but he also may be aware that Frank is going to play 30 minutes.

And what about Knox makes you think he's a 3? His mediocre three-point shooting? His okay handle? Justise had far more perimeter skills than Knox has and the 4 ended up being his best position. Additionally Knox is several inches taller than Justise and just as physically strong. Any lineup with Knox at the 3 is going to suffer with respect to spacing, but his average perimeter skills become an asset at the 4.
