Between Irving starting over one of Steph Curry or James Harden, who both have been much better than Irving for 2-3 seasons now, and Mason Plumlee making the cut over Demarcus Cousins, who puts up top 3 center numbers, the backlash will be amazing to hear.

By the way, why does the writer of that article think Chris Paul is playing?

The backlash is going to be worse if the US doesn't win, which is something I'm pretty worried about. This team seems weaker to me than the Durant one of 2010. And that team wasn't exactly dominant.

If K is not senile, they will beat every team by double digits. They don't need depth. They have Curry, Harden, George, Durant, Davis. That is a combined 130 PER between 5 guys, and each of them has a specific elite skill that fits well around other stars. I don't get how Irving fits into this but at least he can shoot. Durant and Harden should be the guys with the ball starting the offense.

We're heading towards a 2016 starting lineup of Paulus-Redick-Singler-Kelly-Plumlee aren't we

This is terrific. Usually anything that elicits this kind of backlash is also something that hurts our recruiting image. But, "No fair, he gets to play on the national team just because he went to Duke!" is a fantastic sentiment to have floating around.

Yeah, K has decided to risk having a slightly less dominant team in the FIBA games (which don't matter as much as the Olympics anyway) to ensure an epic recruiting haul for Duke in his final years. Brilliant strategy.

I'd seen the highlights of Danny Ferry's 58 point game but didn't know it existed in its entirety on Youtube until just now. Just incredible to watch.

I watched the 2nd half of "The Dagger" game on ESPN Classic tonight (I never saw it live, as I was away doing some work in February 2012). What a great comeback. Obviously Austin was the hero, but Mason was terrific down the stretch. He owned the boards.

That was seriously one of the happiest moments of my life. I know that sounds pathetic, but I'm not talking about some long-lasting, life-defining moment. I mean just that shot and the following few minutes of celebration. There aren't many moments - no matter how fleeting - where I have been as joyful as when that shot went down. I picked up my wife and swung her around the living room (she claims I hurt her back). I wish I had had video cameras set up in my house so I could relive how happy I was in that moment.

The Laettner shot was the pinnacle of happiness for me. It's all been downhill since then.

I was 11.

The reasons to watch this full game other than seeing Ferry's incredible shotmaking...

1) His passing. With his size and combination of skills, I'm really surprised he didn't end up being the next Larry Bird.

2) The pace of play.

3) The incredible depth and quality Duke had.

Also, I know this annoys DSon, but god those uniforms were so clearly objectively better.

Ferry was incredible at Duke, but the kid was playing against NBA players in middle school. His dad was the GM of the Bullets, and Danny really knew how to use his feet and body. If he were coming along at this point, he would be the perfect stretch 4.

Tonight we are watching 'Gunnin' for that #1 Spot' which is a movie about the top high school players from 2007 playing at Rucker Park. Our boy Kyle Singler is in the movie, and they show home videos of him playing every sport imaginable. What a great dude.

NSmitty is also in the film, which is great.

Beasley sure had a filthy game. Nice handle, nice jumper, great finisher. What the fuck happened?
