It's weird that Marquette had a much better record and some pretty nice wins along the way, but wasn't actually a better team.

Re: Dawkins, look at all of the Pac-12 teams that have hired a coach since Stanford hired JD, and have sped right past Stanford: Cuonzo Martin, Tad Boyle, Dana Altman, the other Coach K, some guy named Wayne Tinkle, and now the FGCU guy too. Hurley might make it 7 soon. (I don't count Sean Miller, who was also hired after JD, since he took over a big program.)

Marquette was just very hit or miss, as could be expected of a team whose oldest guy was in his third full season, in a league dominated by experienced teams. Ellenson has been great for them this year, but if they return everyone but him, their record could still improve next year.
