NBA

Looks like Devin Booker is gonna be good as shit. Granted it was summer league, but his stat line was 28 points, 11-21 FG, 3-5 3PT, 8 rebounds, 6 assists. UK has plenty of NBA failures, but under Cal they also have

Booker
Bledsoe
Wall
Cousins
Davis
Towns

as potential all-stars or even hall-of-famers. I'm leaving off Kanter, though I am sure Cal uses him for recruiting.

Forgot that Murray may have that level of potential too. Not sure that Knight will ever quite get there, but he scores a lot. Who knows with Noel.

Wasn't good enough to start ahead of the Harrison twins.

Devin Booker in 3 years will be the 3rd best SG in the game behind only James Harden and Klay Thompson. He's going to be a star for Phoenix.

Really hoping Larry Sanders makes his NBA comeback with the Warriors. Would be great to have a rim protecting big since I feel like that's the biggest weakness on the squad right now.

Portland matches Crabbe's offer sheet. Paying him 18-19 million a year over four years seems insane given that Lillard is making 26+, set to increase to nearly 30.

They've still got McCollum for cheap for one more year. But what do they plan to do after that? If they want to compete in the window, Crabbe isn't the solution. If there isn't a solution this time around and they just want to wait for the next free agency, then don't tie up the money. Make sure you can extend McCollum AND land another big piece. I just dislike moves that limit future flexibility without really improving the team.

Meyers Leonard back to Portland for 41 million over four years. I assume Mason won't be there after this next season. He's worth a lot more than he's getting and they also have Ezeli.

Since drafting Duncan, the Spurs won five championships and posted a 1,072-438 regular season record, giving the team a .710 winning percentage, which is the best 19-year stretch in NBA history and was the best in all of the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB over the last 19 years.

The Silver and Black won at least 50 games the last 17 seasons, the longest streak in league history, and posted at least a .600 winning percentage in each of Duncan’s 19 seasons, an all-time record for most consecutive seasons with a .600 win percentage in the four major U.S. sports.

The 40-year-old Duncan comes off of a season in which he led the NBA in Defensive RPM (5.41)

The Despicable Kevin Durant is celebrating.

Interesting odds for next season:
http://espn.go.com/chalk/story/_/id/169 ... t-decision

William Hill's Nevada sportsbook has a prop on who will have the higher regular-season scoring average: Durant or two-time reigning MVP Stephen Curry. Durant opened as a -175 favorite.

I would take Curry at +125 or whatever he's being offered at. I'm not sure why Durant is such a heavy favorite. People might expect Curry to take a sharp nosedive in regression.

The SuperBook is offering the Warriors at -150 or the field at +130 and opened a season-win total on Golden State at 68.5. The bulk of the early action is on the field, according to SuperBook assistant manager Jeff Sherman, and the win total has been bet down to 67.5.

The South Point sportsbook is offering a prop bet on the Warriors and Cavaliers versus the field. Golden State and Cleveland are -220 favorites over the field.

Cavs/Warriors -220 seems solid. Basically betting on at least one of them making it through the season without a crippling injury.

Something not being discussed too much: I could see Irving making a leap this season to become some crazy godly player on offense with more of a focus on defense as well, coming off a superstar performance in the Olympics. That might be enough to beat the new Evil Warriors while Love figures out how to make himself valuable against them. I could also see Love being traded after some rehabilitation of value during the first half of the regular season and once everyone realizes the Warriors are unbeatable unless the Cavs make a move.

Best power forward ever. What an amazing career.

"Who the fuck is Tim Duncan?"

-- me, January 13, 1994, looking at the Wake Forest team leaders on the scoreboard pre-game.

I learned the answer.

I learned the answer.

At the time it was 'the throw in behind stud frontcourt recruits Ricardo Peral and Makhtar Ndiaye'. Almost certainly the biggest 'out of nowhere' talent in history.

Ingram with an 0-5 night to follow up his 3-12 night. There's definitely going to be a learning curve for him.

Six more potential minutes a game where Jordan/Howard/Drummond are playable.

I admit it. I miss this kind of post play. Guys like McHale make the "highly skilled" Okafor look like Drummond. On another note, why does no one use an up and under anymore? I recall Okafor maybe doing it once or twice during the entire season. Amile does it occasionally.
