"Well, what do you want me to do, put my vacation on hold just because I might cause a massive Ebola outbreak?"

In their defense, that's a very reasonable argument.

Should start throwing people in jail if they violate the quarantine like that NBC medical correspondent. As soon as she's cleared, throw her ass in solitary for another month.

Feels like Nurses are just stupider compared to old times. Like, there's a proliferation of people who would have been high school drop out at-home moms or guys who worked in mindless factory jobs when we used to have those, that just became nurses in the last 20 years instead.

It makes me feel safe knowing the airlines are the ones responsible for tracking down 800 some odd people. Glad the CDC let the nurse travel, so wise.

Friend of mine is a VP/CMO of a hospital in Northern VA that had a patient this morning that had recently been in West Africa and was found vomiting in the Pentagon parking lot. They've moved her to another hospital.

He just told me he did not allow them to take her out of the ambulance and into the hospital and she got sent elsewhere.

Apparently one of the virus' first symptoms is to turn kind, caring people into complete morons with no regard for other people.

This is what makes early diagnosis so hard. Screening for this symptom in our society leads to a uselessly large number of false positives.

Apparently that cruise ship has something like 4,000+ people on it. I can't see that ending well.

Yikes. I really do not understand why people are willingly traveling to West Africa and why they aren't automatically quarantined for a month upon return. You want to travel there? Fine but you're quarantined for a month upon return.

I've just returned from Guinea, an Ebola hotspot. I've recently treated patients that have had Ebola. I've been feeling sluggish all week. I should probably go on a crowded subway. Maybe then I'll go bowling even though I still don't feel good. After that, I should probably take a ride home on Uber. It's not serious until I've got a 103 degree temperature, then I'll call for the ambulance.

"He is a committed and responsible physician who always puts his patients first," the hospital statement said.

Fucking asshole.

"The chances of the average New Yorker contracting Ebola are extremely slim," the statement said, adding that the disease is spread by direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person.

Yeah, I've never sweated while on a crowded subway, NEVER. Fucking asshole.

Lol at these selfish assholes. Just die without killing others. How fucking hard is that. You want to run around on the streets in your final days? Why? Spend them Skyping with your families.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention official Stephan Monroe, July 28:

"I want to underscore that Ebola poses little risk to the U.S. general population. … While it’s possible that someone could become infected with the Ebola virus in Africa and then get on a plane to the United States, it’s very unlikely that they would be able to spread the disease to fellow passengers. The Ebola virus spreads through direct contact with the blood, secretions, or other body fluids of ill people, and indirect contact – for example with needles and other things that may be contaminated with these fluids. Most people who become infected with Ebola are those who live with and care for people who have already caught the disease and are showing symptoms.

Nevertheless, because people do travel between West Africa and the U.S., CDC needs to be prepared for the very remote possibility that one of those travelers could get Ebola and return to the U.S. while sick."

Why the fuck would I believe any statement the feds have put out about Ebola when everything that's "a remote possibility" or "highly unlikely" keeps happening? It's so remote and unlikely yet it's happened twice in less than a month. If you come back from West Africa or a place with an Ebola outbreak, put them in MANDATORY FUCKING QUARANTINE for a month and stop spreading this shit. If you won't do a travel ban than at least quarantine for a month.

Good.

I agree with the quarantine if you had direct contact with these patients (Doctors without Borders people and the like). Travel ban will not work.

Did you get your flu shot yet?

The next time I have a day off, I will be.

BTW, with Nebraska housing one of the 4 places in the country that were set up for things like this, you are at ground zero.
