Player Tyler Thornton

Duke's Tyler Thornton Named To Inaugural Allstate NABC Good Works Team
Duke junior Tyler Thornton is one of five players named to the inaugural Allstate NABC Division I Good Works Team as announced today by Allstate Insurance Company and the NABC.

The award recognizes a unique group of men's college basketball student-athletes who have made outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement including building homes for the elderly, leading basketball clinics, reading to students and working with children with hearing disabilities.

Thornton has been a steady contributor on the court for the Blue Devils averaging 3.4 points, 2.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Widely recognized as a terrific defender and strong leader he has also made an outstanding impact in the community.

In addition to participating in the Read with the Blue Devils program and with the Duke Children's Hospital, Thornton also began working the SONS (Students Of New Success) program at CC Spaulding Elementary School this fall. This unique program, which was created to both educate and mentor at-risk males, is integrated into the educational curricula for third through fifth grades. The program also provides students with historic cultural lessons, tutoring and test preparation as well as a safe place for them to share and receive guidance for their struggles at home and in the community. Through the program, Thornton has developed strong relationships with the students and become a positive male role model as well as someone they look up to, rely on, and confide in.

Class. Absolute class. Well done, TT.

Man, that is really, really impressive. Kudos to TT for sacrificing both on and off the court. What a great representative for Duke.

Judging by that picture and having no idea how tall those kids are, TT is at most 5'10".

I love the look the boy on TT's left is giving the camera.

Great going, TT.

I would imagine that a lot of Duke athletes are involved with community programs in Durham. In my town the local junior hockey team has meet and greet events (fundraisers for different charities) etc. It is pretty cool for the kids.

Brilliant play tonight - hustle plays and good D. Gotta love having this guy on the team.

Diving and knocking it off of PJ in the first half. Amazing

I'm not convinced he doesn't start over Sulaimon for the rest of the year. Gives us even better defense and some scoring off the bench.

I don't remember that play you were talking about, aiw. He knocked it off of Bullock in the second half. I know because I'm rewatching right now. Won't be in the top 5 plays, but deserves to be.

That's the one. Lotsa beers later have confused me a bit. Dives out of bounds and knocked it off of Bulllock. Greatness.

It was play number 5. When you see it from the 2nd angle in slow motion, not only does he knock it off of Bullock, he someone lifts his legs off the ground so the ball won't touch him while he's out of bounds.

I swear if I have to watch tt do anymore hustle play flops I'm going to puke

Incredible play.

Not going to be an NBA player, but future Assistant Coach material?
