Player Tyus Jones

Is he playing again this weekend? Curious to see how he follows up his monster performance last weekend.

Someone on reddit who said they were a former HS teammate of Jones said he has an autographed poster of K.

Um yeah, let's lock this one up.

This needs to happen, mostly so we can get Okafor.

I don't think they decide until right before the November signing date. So many months until then.

247's Crystal Balls prediction now has 13 (up from 3 a few weeks ago). 12/13 predict Duke. Only 1 (Ben Williams of Keeping it Heel *hint hint*) predicts MSU.

So yeah...

Btw, the Crystal Ball feature on 247Sports is genius. Generates a lot of discussion as more and more people vote on it. It's particularly effective for close decisions...like OT Cameron Robinson (#6 overall player out of Louisiana) which is currently a coin toss-up: 53% Alabama, 47% LSU out of 19 predictions.

Also, Okafor now has 9 predictions. All predict Duke. When Shannon Terry (CEO of 247Sports) aka Lucky predicts, it's meaningful. He has discussions with his top writers and analysts at 247 HQ and he makes his picks based on those discussions. So think of his picks as a composite or meaningful/reinforcing votes of confidence.

Apparently he took back one of the assists.

Duke BBall Analysis @Dukebasketball7 2m

Duke recruit Tyus Jones had 27 points and 4 assists in his teams 79-69 win at EYBL

I can't wait for next offseason after Tyus signs.

Half of TDD will advocate us starting Tyus over Cook, and the other half will declare our title hopes dead because we won't be starting a "true" shooting guard.

TDD logic = Senior Cook will clearly not be as good as Tyus because Cook struggled in five games at the end of the year as a sophomore.

It's kind of like when Jon Scheyer regressed in the 2010 ACC tournament and for 2 1/2 games of the NCAA tournament.

Or when JJ regressed at the end of every year.

Let's hope he and Okafor really are a package.

“@Probballdraft: The Buckeyes receiving D’Angelo Russel’s commitment ends the recruitment of Tyus Jones a heavy Duke lean at this point.”

My uninformed guess, in quotes from either Okafor or Jones:

July: "We are definitely going to be playing together in college."

August: "We are almost certainly going to be playing together in college."

September: "We would really like to play together in college, but at the same time, I have to do what's best for me and he's gotta do what's best for him."

October: "At the end of the day, we made the choices that were best for each of us. But hopefully we'll get to play on the same team sometime at the next level."

I would love to be able to bet on this package deal not materializing. I think I could get good odds.

I get the cynicism regarding Okafor, given that our big man recruiting has been very Plumlee-centric the last few years, but we have to land someone eventually, right? Based on quotes/insider predictions/etc. Okafor really does seems like a guy we should be confident about. Hopefully he'll be our breakthrough. I remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm not particularly cynical on either, I guess I'm just skeptical that they'll end up at the same school. I actually think Duke would use Okafor in a way that's well suited to his strengths, and he'd fit like a glove based upon the projected roster for that season.

Based on history, I predict that we only land Tyus.

This will be infuriating to me since basically he's the player of the three I'd least like to land. I understand he's good -- though I'm not convinced he's THAT good -- but more importantly, I assume we can land guards at any point in time. Basically, it would just be SO predictable as to piss me off.

As for Winslow, we haven't really whiffed on SFs, except for 2010 when we missed on Barnes and everyone else. But we've also shown that we don't like to play them when we do have them (Gbinije, Murphy). I want as many as possible to force K away from small ball.

Okafor is obviously the big one. Give me Okafor and I don't give a fuck about the rest of it. You can tell me Grayson decomitted, Semi is transferring, and our new big man coach is Peter Dinklage and I won't care, as long as we land Okafor.

Yea, I think we're all sorta undervaluing Tyus here. We take outstanding guard play for granted given the plethora of talent we seemingly always have at the 1-2 spots, but Tyus would/will be absolutely huge. Duke and UK are the only two schools in the country who wouldn't go apeshit over snagging a guy like him.

Having said that, I agree that he's not nearly as important as Okafor.

Not only is the staff banking on Okafor but they're also banking on Marshall being good and not injured as a 5th year senior (fairly reasonable) and getting a big who is really good quickly in either the class after Okafor or the class after Marshall is gone. The amount of confidence they have in landing Okafor gives me confidence. We joke about how K has seemingly gone insane/inept in big man recruiting recently but he's not totally irrational - he knows once Marshall is gone, he can't just go after one Okafor every year and then scramble for a 3-star guy one month before signing day. Not every Duke team will have Heat-equivalent college talent at all other positions to make up for not having a single center on the roster, like next year's stacked lineup. I would be pretty shocked and just laugh crazily for a while if Okafor doesn't commit to Duke.
