Alumni-Coached College Teams

Chris Collins and Northwestern are currently up 53-39 @ 15th ranked Indiana in the 2nd half. If they can hold on, they will improve to 12-3 and 3-1 in conference play. So far, the early returns for Chris Collins and Jeff Capel (11-5, 4-1 in conference) appear positive after both started the year on the hot seat.

Rivers was more cold blooded, he had other options but chose his shot, this was more of a desperation hail mary, but it worked.

Worst case scenario for the rivalry would’ve been UNC beating us on a Hayward heave in the national title game, but yes, we bounced back incredibly well from last year. Didn’t cause a shift in the rivalry whatsoever.

I said it even before those games, the idea that one game will "win the rivalry forever" is just absurd.
Babe Ruth, Bucky Dent, Aaron Bone, and 24 titles to 0, Couldn't "win" the Yankee Red Sox rivalry. As long as there are fans that hate each other, the moment one team is competitive with the other, the rivalry is back on, it doesn't matter if team A dominated team B for 100 years.

Incredible. But if you're Tommy LLoyd how do you not call for an intentional miss on the second free throw? A 2 point lead does nothing for you.

This really goes to show you that it's worth putting at least token defensive pressure on the shooter. Obviously, you don't want to be close enough to accidentally foul. But man, that was an easy catch and attempt, all things considered.

That’s a bummer.

On a brighter note, I just realized that there could be 5 Duke alums coaching in the NCAAT: Scheyer, Collins, Capel, Hurley and Kenny Blakeney (1 seed in the MEAC tournament). That has to be a Duke record, especially since Duke’s coach never counted in the past.
