Slater basically said that Texas has assembled some all-star recruiting staff that's set to crush in the next few years. Honestly the more I think about it the happier I am that the Shaka-Beard thing played out how it did, and exactly when it did. The thought of Beard at UNC for the next 20 years is nauseating.

I actually do remember that. That was the same year Duke lost, but of course people only cared about the Duke upset.

Luke Winn and Sports Illustrated sort of predicted that upset. He wrote about how teams that depended on forcing turnovers didn't typically do well in the tournament. He singled out Missouri as being particularly dependent on forcing turnovers that season.
