Duke Basketball 2014-2015 Discussion thread

*tips cap*

But really I don't think I would have any "evidence" to prove my point other than "It just seemed that way to me." So why bother?

I hear you. I'm probably too caught up in the emotion of the banquet.

I think it would be interesting to go to another team's EOY event. What happens at UK? Do they switch it up and let freshman make the speeches while the seniors are pushed into the background? Did Hansbrough give a speech in 2009 and if so, was it in Swahili? Did Shaka preside in Austin? Do they even have one at Virginia Tech anyomore, or does the team just go out for pizza the weekend of the ACC tourney? Do they combine it with the kickoff of spring football practice at auburn in order to draw >10 guests?

It's so locked down at Duke I have a hard time envisioning what it must be like at other schools.

During one workout, as the Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino looked on, Jones grimaced through a series of heavy blows. He says that sometimes he pees blood, which he chalks up to an occupational hazard. “Thatta boy, Nate!” someone shouted from the crowd.

“What the hell is Duke doing with all them black players?” Mayweather asked Pitino between sit-ups, as the coach stifled a smile.

“Is that why they win they won the championship?” Mayweather asked.

“There are a million motherf--king Plumlee brothers,” he said later.

I am about to rewatch the championship game for the first time. It feels like I've been saving some epic porn for the perfect time. That time is now.

Man, we missed like 6 bunnies in the first half. Shots that Okafor and Winslow make every time. This was offset a bit by Wisconsin uncharacteristically missing some FTs. The first foul on Winslow was bullshit, the second was legit. Our defensive rebounding was so horrible.

Allen is fine on defense; was trying to pay attention to that. Of course, when he was in during the first half it was a lot of zone.

The block Winslow draws at 9:07 is probably a charge. But again, the first foul was bullshit. I think the biggest foul was Tyus Jones drawing the block on that ridiculous shot he made for the and 1 on Koenig.

It gets Traevon Jackson into the game down the stretch, who really hurts Wisconsin's offense and helps Duke get the lead back. It looks like they only get 4 points between 9:18 (the Kaminsky and 1 on Okafor) and 1:09 (Kaminsky 3).

That's insane to hold the most efficient team in Kenpom history to 4 points during that 8 minute stretch (when scoring is usually up due to fatigue).

Nobody from Wisconsin stepped up other Kaminsky in the end. After the 12 minute mark through the end of the game, Wisconsin players other than Kaminsky scored 4 points in total. Kaminsky had 8.

Jefferson was fucking awesome on defense and on both sides of the boards.

In the 3 years AJ has been at Duke, I have seen him guard all 5 positions (not just on switches of course). The point guard he was assigned to was Kyle Anderson, though there may have been another PG along the way.

I would not put AJ on the short list of all-time Duke stoppers, but he has been invaluable these 3 years, in large part to his versatility on D.

Basketball is just better in slow motion.

Weird to think we're all relatively young but we'll probably never see a season with this many huge moments for the rest of our lives.

During the banquet speech, K mentioned that Amile said to Capel, "Put me in, Coach, I can guard him".

Amile can never get enough credit for what he did in that game.

I'm relatively less young, and you are probably right, but I've thought the same thing too many times before. Hell, I remember being distraught in 1986 as a junior in HS thinking what a shame it was we lost because of how unlikely it would be for K to put together that kind of talent at Duke again.

I'd have never dreamed of a season that could rival 2010. But then here we are. And before that, I was doubtful 2001 could be topped - what with the run after Boozer was hurt and the epic Maryland games.

At this point, I'd have a hard time betting against the possibility. Which is why being a Duke fan is one of the greatest things in life.

I feel safe in predicting I'll never see a team go from having a highly suspect defense to all the sudden being an all-time great defense when the tournament starts. I still can't believe the transformation 3 weeks later.

With the likely two year rule change, we almost certainly won't see a season like the past one. Three freshmen with valuable contributions and another title.

If Silver can just get it in place for Giles/Tatum/Battle we could see this again and then get the extended sophomore undefeated dance mix version in 2018 with Carter, Porter and Brown chipping in backing vocals. Right?
