Duke Basketball 2017-2018

Feels like there's a chance, albeit probably not much, that we could see an enormous spike in defensive performance alone just from teams' tendencies to slow down in the NCAA tournament and making things much more halfcourt oriented. At least that's the last bit of hope i'm clinging to. I still can't wrap my head around it because intuitively you would think the team with the massive talent advantage would be favored by more possessions where game to game variance wasn't as much a factor.

Despite missing his first million 3pt attempts, Gary is shooting at an ELITE level 2/3rds through his college career. Really the only weakness is that dreadful 68% FT shooting at the moment.

Obviously all kinds of caveats for partial season vs full season, late-season quality comp, etc.

But this team right now is shooting better from 3 than 2017.

That's crazy considering how some of these guys started the year. It was a legit worry for most of us on this board.

12-29
12-23
11-21
12-26

That's during our 4 game win streak. 47%. We obviously won't keep that up but if we hit 10 3s in a game then I think we'll be nearly impossible to beat.

Pretty insane that, combined, Carter and Bagley are shooting 40% from 3 so far on their first 58 shots.

In terms of unlikely things that have happened since the season started, that's up there with the preposterous recruiting class. We would have laughed anyone off the board who guessed that in their projections.

Rewatching this Miami team and getting pissed all over again. Fucking Larranaga. Sad ass corny old man. Average team in tempo decides to run on every fucking possession vs. us. Good gameplan. But maybe trying coaching like that vs. another team, you sad old fuck who will die soon.

Larranaga has clearly traumatized Rome on some major level. Just imagine the state he'd be in had Miami actually beaten us last week.

The best sequence of Duke basketball all year was Carter's block against Miami when we're up 73-70 and then Trent's three to follow.

The three was a set play. What's awesome about it is that no one called it out. They seem to have operated on instinct and lots of practice. Trevon comes up and Bagley sets a screen for him. Trevon ignores it and goes to the right wing. It looks like he's going to pass into the post to Carter. Trent is in the mid-post and you think he's setting a screen to free up Carter. Instead he curls and comes to the top of the key. At the same time, Bagley sets a mid-post screen to stop a closeout on Trent. Trevon kicks to Trent at the exact right moment. Bench is ready with their hands up in the air.

They ran the same play against Wake. Trent set the cross screen for Bagley that time, and then Carter set the down screen for Trent. Result was the same.

Y'all see where former OSU loser Mark Titus blatantly stated that he thinks Duke and K are paying players?
