Player Jahlil Okafor

Okafor was 126 efficiency, Amile was 200, Marshall was 200. Overall around 1.33 PPP.

In retrospect, Brey's stupidity in not doubling the post against Duke was only matched by Duke's stupidity in not going more to the bigs, whether with normal Okafor post ups or pick and roll action with Amile and Marshall. If Duke were playing a team of 4'6" 4th graders, we would go 100% into our bigs and the guards would never shoot. Notre Dame should've been something like that. If a very small team is going to defend Duke by giving the bigs whatever they want, just take it until they stop.

The coaches and players were probably caught off guard and felt like they were falling into a trap, when in reality, the simplest answer was the best.

There aren't many decent teams that will suck at Okafor single coverage as much as Notre Dame, though, which will be the problem going forward.

Fuck how efficient the bigs were that night. We needed to go to our guards, who were at something like 50 efficiency, because they scored well in a lot of other games.

Against a good team with a good defensive big man, there will be a way. It's not an automatic loss when like 28 NBA teams face single coverage on their centers every night. Somehow, those teams figure out how to get the other players good shots despite their centers drawing single coverage or no coverage.

Jahlil shot 64% on his 11 post ups. Not sure how many times he was fouled while posting up, but that obviously hurts his post up efficiency.

If they can even get 1.1 PPP from Okafor post ups against an average defense, you'd think the 7 other guys on the team standing around and watching the whole time would allow them to play hard on defense and limit the other team to under 1.1, even an offense as good as ND's. Everyone else on the team was really worthless that night. Seemed like they just wanted to go home and rest with a 1 seed and favorable region probably locked up, which may turn out to be the right move.

All 4 of his trips to the FT line and his 1 turnover also came during single coverage post ups.

That's 16 points on 16 post possessions.

chs told me Oak is why we won't win it all. :(

I was half trolling half serious when I made that thread. Don't believe everything I say over there. The place is a cesspool, it's fun to get people going every now and then.

I knew it was you!

You're chs? Never knew that

I figured it out kind of but his favorite pro teams gave it away.

Since the Pistons basically ended the Shaq era in 2004 (though he got another one with Wade), 5 of 11 NBA champs have had starting centers with no post up game or ability to get their own shot at all. Pistons Ben Wallace, Celtics Kendrick Perkins, Mavs Tyson Chandler, Heat Joel Anthony/Birdman x2.

In college, since Hansbrough, we've gotten as champions Duke Brian Zoubek, UConn Alex Oriakhi, Kentucky Anthony Davis, Louisville Gorgui Dieng, UConn Phillip Nolan and Kentucky Willie Cauley-Stein. That's about 1.5 starting centers that would ever draw a double team (Davis and half a Dieng).

These teams figured out how to run functional offenses playing legit 5 on 5 or 4 on 5. I hope Tyus Jones, Quinn Cook and Justise Winslow will be able to figure out how to score with a defender trying to guard them.

Funny how everyone compares Jah to Tim Duncan when the truth is...

That's per-40 and comparing to Duncan's sophomore season.

No one spoon fed me that information so I can't say. Although, I can say that the FT% and Blocks would be lower.

Towns gets more reb/40. Okafor is at 11.8 reb/40.

Okafor is better at 2pt% and points. Towns is better at basically every other rate stat.

1.05 steals per 40 for Okafor!

Has Duke had a starter in the last 20 years with a worse FT%?

After getting repeatedly abused by fellow third grader, Tyus Jones, Jahlil Okafor vows to never again play defense.
