Why do major league players ever slide into first base? Like the passing on the cutoff man or building an offense around the mid range jumper, it's the wrong thing to do 100% of the time. Still, I've seen it multiple times this season and now it's landed Josh Hamilton on the DL.

It should only be done if the throw has pulled the first baseman off the bag, and he has to tag the runner.

Yeah, but still very surprised Hamilton did it as a veteran, even being a very aggressive base runner. Yasiel Puig... I could totally see him doing it.
