Question for you tech-savvy people: if I update a piece of software does it overwrite the old software? I ask because I'm looking at a plugin that is almost 10 GB. It'd be nice to update it, but I want to know much of my storage I'll be using. It's not worth updating if I'm going to use 6% of the remaining space on my hard drive.

I believe it can vary software to software. I have some software that will only update the new stuff and take away whatever isn't needed anymore while others will basically uninstall everything except the settings and then install the new version. Given your limited space, the safest option may be to just email the software's customer support and ask them directly. Might take a day or two to receive a response but most times they'll help pretty quickly.

I'm dumb. It would actually only be 0.6% of my storage. I guess I shouldn't be too worried about it. Still, after dealing with an overly full hard drive for years I'm trying not to add things unnecessarily.

That significantly reduces my interaction with Twitter. I'm not interested in an invite-only platform, and Threads looks like it sucks, so I guess I am going to fade into Bolivian as far as social media goes

How do y’all get your news these days? I want to give Apple $10/mo for Apple News+, mainly for the WSJ access, but wondering if there’s a better option for news aggregation. Twitter is OK for mindless scrolling but there are paywalled WSJ and other articles that look interesting each day.

News+ (I do the apple one premier sub) + NYTimes.

I usually just use https://12ft.io/ whenever I encounter a paywall. If I can't get past the paywall, I'll do a quick search to see if someone posted it on twitter or reddit. If none of those options work, I usually just rely on twitter/reddit comments to get the gist of whatever went down and then look again later if I'm still interested in whatever the topic was. Most of the news I read is stuff that isn't paywalled so if it is, it's usually a specific topic that interests me and generally I can find somewhere where it's being discussed and usually find someone who has posted the article.
