BREAKING NEWS from Old Trafford:

Anderson is starting tonight.

Oh yeah, and some Argie signed on.

Everything I know about soccer comes from Football Manager, so this will probably sound artificial and cont-ish, but ManU is so lame right now. Maybe the system changes with di Maria and Rojo helps stabilize the back, but Valencia and Ashley Young as WBs with the current 3 in the back line is awful. And Cleverly/Fletcher is just laughable. The only positive so far is Tyler Blackett who looks like he might have a future as a starter unlike Michael Keene.

Other than de Gea and Evans (and Januzaj, who was forced to come on for Kagawa), that lineup pretty much looked like van Gaal's "Leave when you feel like it" list - and not trusting any of de Gea's backups enough to even field them in that case is also kinda worrisome. Anyway, I guess the best thing to come out of that debacle is it's one less front to worry about this season.

I'm pretty confident in assuming that van Gaal is going to play di Maria as a central midfielder, which could work. I don't know what's happened to Young after how confident he looked during the summer tour. As for Cleverley, the less I say about him the better. Hoping the midfield shapes up better once Carrick and Herrera recover.

Tricky for Arsenal, bu they should qualify. Liverpool and City have the one big opponent in their group but the rest are winnable. Chelsea in a laugher, as usual.

Ludogrets........what a story so far already, and now they get to go from home crowds of 8,000 to Santiago Bernabeu and Anfield.

If you get a chance to catch a replay or download of the Newcastle/Crystal Palace match this morning, do so. Wonderful match, unlike the pile of vomit thrown up yet again by United earlier.

Definitely a friendly match, given Ecuador's defending on the goal. Nice to see Donovan involved in the buildup.

VERY disturbing stat mentioned by announcers today after Ireland scored their 3rd goal - today marked the 10th time out of 11 games that the US has conceded a goal past the 80th minute. We had plenty of opportunities to tie it up late, but Ireland threatened a lot as well. Today's defensive strategy was not it, and Bill Hamid did not make a strong case for himself as the goalie of the future.

This whole thing is such a joke: have a guy run an investigation, don't release the findings but do a report of the report, have that report promptly discredited by the author of the original report, and then say "we're going to bring charges against some people involved with the bidding process" but uphold the results of that bidding process.

Well done, United. :)

Would like to think this is where the season's turnaround begins as van Gaal settles in, but we'll see.

Arsenal thoroughly outplays another opponent, loses another player to injury, loses the game again. This is getting hilariously predictable

Now let's just make sure this kid is more Green than Adu, which even then is not a sure thing.
