Player Tyler Thornton

Scheyer was good because I think K likes to have one chicago area guy on the staff if he can. Obviously doesn't have the clout that the Collins family, but he's still got connections to the area.

Tyler could do the DMV?

My wife made me think about post-Tyler Thornton Duke and I got really sad :(

plz don't leave

People would be complaining about the Scheyer hire if it weren't for the 2010 championship.

Another soft, white guard on K's staff? How is that going to look to inner city recruits? But Scheyer gets a pass because he knows how to win the big games, and will undoubtedly pass that trait on to everyone he coaches.

Also Scheyer is 6'5", not 5'11", which makes him 6 inches taller than Wojo, which means that he's six times the coach Wojo is. The inches-to-coaches scale is clearly exponential.

I bet wojo is 5'8 IRL. He was interviewed by a female sideline reporter going into halftime at Cuse and she appeared taller than Wojo. My theory, she's in heels and it was a weird camera angle, but I doubt he is 5'11.

I'm getting such a pit in my stomach feeling knowing we have at most 6 weeks left of watching him in a Duke uni :(

A barely 6-foot guard denying the likes of Dez Wells and Charles Mitchell a potential game-winning putback. I'll definitely miss him.

The odds of K snagging a bulldog, blue-collar NCAA Title caliber role player, like TT again before he retires are probably low. Programs like Wichita State, Saint Louis, VCU, UVA and the Fighting Beileins are aware how valuable they are and are actively trying to sniff them out before any of the elites haughtily ponder about a need of low-risk 'back-up plans.'

He has played well against UNC in the past (esp. last year's home game). Let's see some more on Thursday night.

He's on a Scheyer-like tear. Averaging close to five assists per game over the last four. And one turnover. No, not averaging one turnover. He has one turnover total.

TT may bump David McClure as my all time favorite Duke player. He's been just amazing. K and I will both cry when he plays his last Duke game.

The TT-Sulaimon combo has been used about 32% of the time over the last 5 games.

BY FAR, the most used combo at the guard spots.

Hey Topher -- did you crunch those numbers yourself, or is there available lineup data somewhere?

It's on the team page of Kenpom.com. Scroll all the way to the bottom for the most used lineups. Pretty sweet new feature.

You've all probably already seen some version of it, but this has got to be the greatest TT picture ever

Checking in on the Thornton Stats after his recent shooting slump:

9.1% usage
138 offensive rating (#3 nationally, #1 ACC)
45/47/83 FG/3PT/FT
28% FT rate (this seems much better than the eye test tells us)
4.1 assist/turnover (#5 nationally, #1 ACC)
4.0% steal (#40 nationally, #2 ACC)
5.5 fouls per 40 minutes

This 3-star recruit, largely unwanted by his own team's fans, has recognized from day one what his role would be and worked to fulfill his role better than anyone in college basketball. He does foul too much.

To be fair, he gets at least one foul per game that is what you might call a "self-sacrifice" foul. I.e. - his teammates sucked at defense and he hacks someone's arm to prevent a layup. He knows he's not going to play 40 minutes and so he's okay with taking the foul to prevent two surefire points.
