UNC Recruiting

Getting a lot of crystal balls for UNC. Not good for us. An elite point guard that will of course stay and torture us for multiple years.

UNC is probably going to land its best recruiting class in a long time in 2024. Not only have they locked up Cadeau, but they appear to be the favorite for Boogie Fland, another top 10 nationally ranked player that went to the same high school as RJ Davis. They're also deep in the mix for Ian Jackson, the #2 player in the class. They have an official visit with him in January.

My hope was that Hubert would continue the recruiting of Roy, but that appears to be changing in a massive way in the 2024 class. They have a great shot at landing two top players, and a decent shot at landing 3.

He says he wants to be OAD and win a title. Not sure how he expects that to happen, especially not if he reclassifies to 2023. I guess he's counting on Hubert to work his portal magic. In all reality, it's probably just typical recruit hubris.

They'll have a sophomore Trimble (#38), freshman Cadeau (#8), and freshman Wilcher (#19). Not a bad trio, but all are guards. As for bigs, they'll have a sophomore Nickel (#83), a sophomore Washington (#54), and a freshman High (#46). Certainly more talent than some recent UNC teams, but youth and lack of truly elite players should limit them.

I assume that if Cadeau does reclassify it'll be because Davis and Love are gone.

Cadeau is listed at 6'1", 165. If he's elite enough to be an OAD lottery pick, that's bad news for us. Hopefully he's just like Nas and Cole and hell-bent on going OAD regardless.

Hubert seems like he’s doing well in 2024 recruiting. Got this kid James Brown who I know nothing about but seems pretty good

Sadly, it appears that Hubert has improved and modernized UNC in the X's and O's departments and is now doing the same in recruiting. In the class of 2024, UNC already has three commitments from #10 overall PG Elliot Cadeau, #27 C James Brown, and #50 SF Drake Powell. Additionally, UNC is considered the favorite for #11 G Boogie Fland, and #13 PF Jarin Stevenson, and they have as good a shot as anyone to land #2 overall Ian Jackson.

Using 247's class calculator, I put in that UNC will land all the names mentioned above. That would give them a class score of 70.73. For reference, going back to 2010 when 247 begins to keep a history of their class rankings, this would be the #1 recruiting class in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and it would've finished #2 in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2022. Here are the actual results of UNC's recruiting since 2010 (beginning with 2010): #7, #12, #5, #15, #10, 2015 N/A, #14, #19, #13, #9, #2, #20, #17.

If 2024 isn't a fluke and Hubert has improved UNC's recruiting and combined it with a strong NIL game, Duke will really fall behind if the on-court product doesn't improve.

So much for Hubie’s shitty recruiting. I definitely think he’s going to be there for at least 5 years. You can’t fire someone who made it to the title game in their first year and is recruiting at a high level unless they start repeatedly missing the tournament.
