We talked about him on the podcast tonight and based on Steve Clark’s scouting report, Im out on this kid. Not sure he offers anything we wouldnt already have in White or Bolden. If Bolden leaves (where to?) then I see the need for Carey but Id rather not push out a rising senior for this dude.

Do we have any shooting stats for Vernon "Large Horse" Carey? Is he supposed to be a legitimate thread to drive and play from the perimeter, or is that not actually a thing?

Trying to figure out if he's actually a top 3 player in the class, or he's just a consequence of ratings services not having adjusted to the actual value of "skilled post players" yet.

Apparently he was #22 in the mock draft Givony released last month, so I guess that answers that.

Jesus. What fucking upside is there to this? One year of a high-usage, low-efficiency option who will struggle on defense, require minutes over potentially more experienced players, and take the slot of players who would be better fits, before he ruins Duke/K's development reputation by going like 20 spots lower than his RSCI ranking.

A high-upside version of Kennedy Meeks or a heart-and-hustle version of Jahlil Okafor.

This is probably the guy that gets me to skip watching an entire season of college basketball. We need to get a national title this season.

The only way Carey can work is if he's a complete rebounding monster ala Dejuan Blair, or Brian Zoubek. 20+ ORB% and 22+ TRB%. If he can do that then it can work.

Each year I feel Bolden will depart the program in the offseason; if he does leave next spring, Javin (with all of his foul troubles) is the only legit big on the roster. If Large Horse is a competent passer out of the post, that could help players like AOC & Baker.

He was the 34th leading rebounder in the EYBL this past year. Only averaged 0.5 more rebounds per game than Wendell Moore.

Having watched him play a few times, he’s Jabari level defensively.

Next year could be a really fun year with Tre back and landing Stewart or it could be 2013-2014 all over again.

At least 13-14 could score. Next year could be this first year in forever that we're just plain mediocre on both ends.
