The only positive I can find in playing a game against Wake Forest this season is seeing how Tre Jones holds up defensively against their point guard.
Brandon Childress has exploded this season and become one of the most valuable offensive players in the conference. Without him, I think Wake would be challenging the all-time worst ACC teams for the title of worst ever. This is not the usual hyperbole; Wake is #212 on defense and #123 on offense. Without digging into Childress' defensive ability, I assume he isn't the weak link, and I'm fairly certain Wake's offensive ranking would fall close to #200, if not worse, without him.
No other Wake player has an offensive rating above 110; Childress is at 127. He plays 91% of the possible minutes but he doesn't get the ball enough, at only 20% usage. I expect this to change against Duke, since Manning wouldn't want to look totally incompetent in one of the very few Wake games that people will watch this season. Childress fits the profile of the "Duke killer" point guard from years past, with a ridiculously great FT rate (66%), excellent 3pt shooting (47%, but probably due for regression given his career FT and 3pt numbers), decent assist rate (24%) and decent FT shooting (78%). Let's see if Jones can stop him.
This is the only thing I see on paper that gives Wake any chance of competing with Duke.
