[2018-19] Indiana through Texas Tech (at New York)

Yeah, I feel like his defensive value makes him a net positive. I continue to be impressed with how well he fares when he gets switched onto a guard.

It would really be nice to see them avoid a slow start against TT. The last 3 games they seem to have started in neutral.

Bolden’s best shot at the NBA is shouting at K when the camera is on him, something like “old fool, I don’t want no more post-ups, stop forcing that shit on me.” He has the rim protection and bare minimum perimeter defense competence that everyone wants in a center, but he’ll never make it if NBA teams thinks these post-ups are his idea.

One of these games, he should just start setting screens all over the place, regardless of what plays are being called. This would also enhance his value to NBA scouts.

People are looking at me funny as I fail to subdue a laugh at the image of Bolden randomly running around setting screens on invisible opponents.

Didn't realize Texas Tech is tomorrow. Jarrett Culver has emerged as one of the elite players in college basketball. #5 on kPOY. He's basically their offense, though. If he's shut down, looking at the other guys on paper, it can't be pretty. I would switch everything on him, never let him get an open shot, force him to drive into Javin/Bolden/White. We should learn a lot about what Barrett, Reddish and Zion are capable of while defending an NBA talent on the perimeter in an NBA-type defensive system. If they can't combine with their length and athleticism to stop one guy, it's a bad sign for how they're going to do when they're facing multiple decent offensive players on the court at the same time. Shut Culver down, and Duke should be able to scrape out a win while scoring the expected 30 halfcourt points.

I don't care if he ever scores as long as he protects the rim like he's been doing. Having a guy at his length not afraid of contact, just guarding the basket and lane is a huge advantage. And he is still is the best hedger on a ball screen Duke has no matter if guard or Bigs.

Just saw that Texas Tech has five of the top seven players in the country in defensive rating. Holy shit.

Granted, I kind of hate defensive rating for this reason. It purports to be an individual stat, but it's hard to have a great defensive rating on a mediocre defensive team or to have a mediocre defensive rating on a great team.

AOC has had a really good stretch, at the end of the Indiana game, his +/- was -12 on the season with 76 minutes played.
He's now at +72 with 147 minutes played, that means he's been +84 in his last 71 minutes, or +47.3 per 40.

Right now Duke has a very balanced Top 7, with everyone between +30.4 and +33.1 per 40. If AOC can inch toward that group we'll have a very balanced top 8 with little to no dropoff.

Can we get the TT bet going? I want to bet all my money on TT after watching Boston shit the bed against the worst team in the NBA tonight. My sports misery comes in waves.

Ask and ye shall receive. Game is on sportsbook. Also included moneylines for those who are really wanting to make some money on a Red Raider victory

Would be nice to see Zion attack the rim early and get at least one of their shot blockers in foul trouble.

It will most likely be the exact opposite. Zion, RJ, and Tre all get in early foul trouble and Duke has a terrible shooting night.

I expect our guys to get clobbered at the rim repeatedly and Bilas to wax rhapsodic about their "elite rim protection."
