Will never forget his 3 possession stretch of dominance versus UNC in the 2017 ACC Tournament.
It’s also sad to think about what would’ve been had Giles been healthy. He was a total beast pre injury and him and Tatum would’ve been just wild. That team earned a 2 seed and won the ACCT as it was, with a healthy Giles they probably would’ve been top 5 all season and had potentially dominated CBB publicity like the Zion team did.
it gets overlooked in part because of the Giles injury but my goodness we were literally getting any top recruit we wanted. After the 2015 title we entered a 3-4 period where Duke was the place for top 5 recruits, and we carefully selected which ones we wanted. It’s crazy to think we were essentially handpicking top 5 recruits. Tatum, Giles, Carter, Reddish and Barrett all committed to Duke prior to the early signing period. Zion was a February signee and we got Bagley in the summer to reclassify. Just absolutely insane how no one even stood a chance for most of them.
We signed 7 top 5 recruits in three straight recruiting classes and 5 of those commitments were essentially over with in their junior seasons. We will never see a recruiting run like that again.
