NBA

4 games in and Cavs shooting ~40% still. What the fuck. Only 6 assists tonight as well

Blatt is sucking balls at managing minutes. K can get away with playing 8 guys, including one or two stars 90% of the game, but that shit isn't going to work in the NBA.

^^^ This is the kind of shit getting posted on RCF after every game now.

Meanwhile, KI is getting ripped in a game he had 34 points on 53% shooting, and basically kept them from getting blownout in the fourth quarter.

All the Cavs need is a guy like Ron Harper or Derek Fisher from the Bulls and Lakers championship teams. That guy walks the ball up the court as the faux point guard and then sits at the arc waiting for open 3s, while playing solid defense on the other end. There are plenty of them in the league and probably in the D League. Just plug one of them in and bench Waiters forever. Half blind John Scheyer would be a better fit than Waiters. Let Irving be championship Wade.

Demarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay are killing it again, both guys developed by K. Kings are blowing out the Nuggets and about to start 4-1.

I wouldn't hate it if the Cavs drafted Tyus and moved Kyrie to a PG/SG combo role while Waiters got his ass shipped out

ESPN boxscore says the Cavs only had 6 assists. Lebron - 4, Love - 1, Waiters - 1, Kyrie and everyone else - 0. Sounds like beautiful offense.

Imagine how great the Cavs offense would be with a 3 and D guy like Danny Green playing the 2.
Maybe throw Joe Harris out there and see if he can hit NBA 3s? He hit 40.7% for his college career on 646 attempts. Surely he could develop into a decent NBA 3 shooter. Plus he actually learned how to play defense in college unlike Kyrie or Waiters.

Golden State putting a whooping on the Clippers despite Joey Crawford and company doing their best to keep the Clippers in the game. Clippers have 5 fouls total midway through the 3rd quarter. Steph Curry by himself has 4.

This trade helps everyone:

Pistons receive:
Dion Waiters
Expiring contracts within the next 2 years
some picks

Cavs receive:
Stan Van Gundy
Jodie Meeks
Josh Smith

Cavs lineup post trade:
Kyrie Irving
Jodie Meeks (Waiters level defense, not an idiot on offense, just shoots open 3s)
Lebron James
Josh Smith (protects the rim and shoots well in the paint, versatile defender)
Kevin Love
Coached by Stan Van Gundy

Pistons bottom out even more, assured of getting an elite SF in the draft, might even get Mudiay. Also shed Josh Smith's and Jodie Meeks' big contracts for shorter deals from the Cavs.

You can't have your PG recording zero assists. Just terrible.

But it's a team-wide problem, clearly.

Why would you trade Dion Waiters for a taller, much dumber Dion Waiters? At this point in his career, Josh Smith is too set in his ways. Why would you want LeBron's head to explode watching a crappy shooter hoist 3s? Monroe would be spectacular, but I doubt they'd do that.

Josh Smith wouldn't take any jumpers on the Cavs. He does in Detroit because the team sucks anyway and he is just playing the game for fun, not for winning. If Smith did continue his Waiters act in Cleveland, they could just play Varejao or Thompson instead and let Smith and his big contract rot away. The upside is a guy who is a top notch defender and good inside scorer who can complement Love well on both ends. The downside is Smith and his giant salary rotting on the bench, which is the risk you take for such a lopsided trade. They would get Van Gundy (which is awkward, since Van Gundy has control for the Pistons and would essentially be trading himself) and two rotation-worthy players in exchange for the shittiest young talented player possible for the Cavs (Dion Waiters) and negative value draft picks (since the Cavs don't want to add any more guaranteed salary). The Pistons are simply shedding salaries of guys who aren't providing any value to them since they aren't making the playoffs anyway.

How 'bout just Waiters for Meeks? Too early to give up on Blatt, and I just think you want to steer clear of knuckleheads like Smith. If you could just play Varejao or Thompson, then just do that and not risk his combination of contract/stupidity.

Hell, trade Waiters for Singler.

Lebron is not pleased with Irving:
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11831 ... rs-offense

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving exchanged words in the Cleveland Cavaliers' locker room following the team's 19-point loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night, and it led to Irving leaving quickly without speaking to the media, multiple sources told ESPN.com. The discussion was seen as healthy, sources said, with the veteran James voicing concerns about the direction of the Cavs' offense. James addressed Irving to discuss the way he'd been dominating the ball in the early going of the season. Irving hasn't had an assist in more than six quarters, and he's taken 36 shots in that span. The Cavs tied a franchise-record low with six assists, four of them from James, against the Jazz.

Sounds like Lebron was trying to have a calm, reasonable discussion with Irving, supported by statistical evidence, whereas Irving obviously pouted, cried and stormed out of the room without talking to anyone for the rest of the night, ultimately landing in front of his TV to play video games with Tyler Thornton online.

Simmons is fucked. Mike and Mike is ESPN's biggest moneymaker radio guys. Two "safe" personalities that don't make waves and make their living off of shallow, softball sports topics and opinions while sucking up to every guest they have. Two anti-simmons, which is basically what ESPN could only hope all their personalities were like.

I think this is the end. Grantland gets neutered heavily, if not outright terminated (IIRC it was more of a loss leader anyways), ESPN goes back to Broussard/Barry types for their main NBA analysis, Bill Simmons lands with Fox or NBC with a much reduced platform and visibility, and treasures like Lowe and Goldsberry disappear forever.

This story is hilarious to me...the headline is they "exchanged words" and gives it a negative vibe. But everyone is making a point to say that it was a healthy exchange...sooo basically they spoke to each other after the game? I think that is typically how someone would describe a healthy exchange of words.
