Don't know how many are keeping up, but the US U-20 team qualified for the World Cup quarterfinals early this morning. Since there are a couple of Arsenal fans here, worth mentioning that Zelalem has been starting since coming off the bench in the opener against Myanmar. His best game was against New Zealand, but he's been pretty steady throughout. Colombia were a pretty physical team this morning, but the defense kept their shape, and Steffen came up huge with the penalty save. On to face Serbia in the quarters now - that'll be a tough matchup, as they have been one of the better teams in the tournament so far.

It was a historic 5 days for the USMNT. I know friendlies mean nothing, but I'll always get a little excited with wins over Germany and the Netherlands on their home turf.

When Michael Bradley is on, he can take over a game. The passing vision and control he exerted over the midfield from the latter part of the 1st half was awesome to watch. Form like that from him is why I truly believe that he is still young enough to move back to Europe. Of the current core members of the national team, I think he's the best shot we have of an American becoming a world-class player.

Sepp Blatter resigning but will hold office until new election can be conducted in six months to a year. So I doubt he actually resigns.

Knew I should've put money down on this prediction.

u20 players are bad at passing.
Really disappointed with the midfield the last 2 games. You can tell that Hyndman and Zelalem are going to be good, but there, the constant giveaways and facing their backs to goal were frustrating. Serbia deserved to win.

I'll be happy just to see an improved level of play in the MLS. It's come a long way, but still has a long way to go before this league becomes more than either a developmental league or playground for over-the-hill foreigners. I think some US national team players are wasting away here, and could stand a move back to Europe.

The New York derby was painful to watch, not so much for the play (which was half-decent), but that aberration of a field that was placed in Yankees Stadium.

We will have the best first year of any expansion team in the history of MLS.

Great win by the USWNT over Germany. The German squad had all the momentum for the first 15+/- minutes of the first half, but the US defense absorbed the blows well. From then on it was all USA. The missed PK by Germany was incredibly lucky, as was the PK call for Morgan, but the team was knocking on the door all game long.

Steam roll Germany, and then beat Japan. It's what America does WWII style.

Germany had the first 5 minutes of the first half and the first 15 of the second half, until their missed PK. We thoroughly dominated in the first half, as we shredded their high press.

What are you referring to on PKs? We blew a huge dick on PKs against Japan in 2011. It was quite embarrassing to be honest.
