Unless he wanted to retire, there wasn't a benefit. They buyout would be paid over 5 years or so and had offsets.

I think the Celtics make him an offer after they fail again, and he waits for them. As a franchise, I believe the Celtics understand the value of a college coach who gets a team to the title game twice in a row, and they’re not going to accept another non-title. He would be every Celtics’ fan’s first choice.

Not sure Hurley can even wait for the Celtics offer when this is on the table. I can’t see UConn matching this. It’s an irrational amount to spend on a college basketball coach. Wouldn’t want Duke to spend this much on him.
