Player Gary Trent Jr.

It's abso-fking-lutely crazy how good of a shooter he has become, especially after the "slow" start in the pre-season. If Malik Monk can get drafted 10th, how is GT not in that conversation??

There is no question this guy will be a pro next year. He is ready physically and he has the skill set to be a good rotation player.

How are GMs not getting raging hard-ons thinking about Klay-lite comparisons from him? If he doesn't end up in the next DX mock, then Adam Silver is pulling strings to assemble the super-duper team for next year.

This is the 1st 2018 mock draft I have seen him listed in:

Cast into a supporting role on a Duke team devoid of wings, Trent has quietly done a solid job fitting in. Known as a scorer coming out of high school, Trent has done most of his work spotting up and running in transition. He’s shot the ball well from three-point range lately and has a projectable NBA body. Defensively, he’s a major questionmark at this stage Trent could probably use another season in college to show his stuff, but with Duke set to bring in R.J. Barrett, Cam Reddish and Zion Williamson, this might be a case where he tests and eventually goes.

Nowhere near as quick a release as Klay although it's improved this season. Defense not even close as well. I can see it as he is a tweener. Too slow and not quick enough off the dribble for a 2 But would get overpowered by 3s

Klay was not a good defender when he entered the league. Trent is far ahead of him at this stage.

ETA: Also, I think you're missing the "lite" part in the Klay-lite comparison.

I think he's a lottery pick, but, if GM's dont want him in the 1st round I'll welcome him back with open arms next year.

Klay's release was also much slower in college. He would bring the ball down to his waist on every shot. He fixed that once he got to the NBA. Not saying Trent will make his release as quick as Klay's is now, but Trent is already quicker than college Klay.

Gary Trent Jr., has had an impressive freshman campaign, averaging 15 points and 4.3 rebounds a game. I think what has stood out the most is his shooting from long-range. Trent has connected on 65 of 145 three-point field goals (44.8%). At 6-foot-4, maybe 6-5, there’s certainly a lot of value in Trent long-term. I don’t see him as a first round draft pick this season, so it’s safe to say, at least as of today, it would likely be in his best interest to return. Now that doesn’t mean that he will, but I’d say as of today they are looking pretty good. The potential perimeter of Trent, Alex O’Connell, Tre Jones, R.J. Barrett and Cameron Reddish would be dynamic and arguably the top perimeter in the nation.

Evan Daniels.

WOW. I know I shouldn't be, but it will be really hard to not be excited if Gary and Marques come back.

His defense and especially his rebounding are killers for a college SF unfortunately.

As far as Trent coming back, I wouldn't put too much stock into what an expert thinks about Trent's need to come back. The only opinion on his NBA readiness that matters is Trent's own opinion.

Should probably heavily invest in VR porn if you want to live out fantasies. And I’m not limiting that to Trent and/or Bolden coming back, it applies more to the broader idea that Duke accomplishing anything of significance over the next several years is incredibly unrealistic.
